My anti-bucket list?

I can't think of a better term for it. I was thinking "seive list," but I know the bucket isn't about collecting experiences, it's about things you want to do before you kick the bucket.

Well, every once in a while I see someone cross something off their bucket list, and I think I'll actually be very happy if I manage to avoid that experience until my dying day.

The list is getting quite long, actually! Since I spend a fair amount of time thinking about the things I *would* like to do once we have money and time again, I thought it would be fun to share my anti-bucket list of things I wouldn't do even if I won the lottery tomorrow and had no responsibilities.

This is of course not to insult anyone else who *would* like to do these things; it's just my personal interests.

So, in no particular order, I hope I never have to:
* Get a fur coat.
* Eat caviar.
* Receive a diamond.
* Go skydiving.
* Go downhill skiing.
* Try surfing.
* Visit Dubai.
* Own a boat.
* Own (or even ride) a motorcycle.
* Go big game (or any game) hunting. Or own a gun, though I might be curious to try one out at a shooting range.
* Get a tattoo.
* Have a fancy wedding.
* Play golf (except mini-golf).
* Attend the Super Bowl.
* Own a horse.
* Go to Disneyland.

I'm sure there are others; maybe I'll edit this entry as I think of them! Do you have an anti-bucket list: experiences or things that are supposedly desirable but more than not caring whether or not you have them, you actually hope you never do?

I have someone trying to convince me to get on a motorcycle...she says it is a way to feel close to nature?! I also don't want to own a gun, but yes, I would go to a shooting range.

I dunno. Seems like a lot of negative energy to make a list of things you don't want to do :-) I've done seven of the things on your list and enjoyed them very much.

Fair enough. It didn't make me feel negative in any way and I certainly didn't mean to put negativity out there; I just think it's funny and thought money-minded people would appreciate it since a lot of us have much different priorities from the mainstream.

I'd agree with most of your anti-bucket list except for the horse and riding a motorcycle. Of course I did a good share of motorcycle riding behind my dad when I was young, as well as on a mini-bike. I don't think I'd want to do it again though.

I rode on a friend's motorcycle once. It was just a small one and we were on a farm and I think he was only going 15 miles per hour and we only covered a few acres of land, but it was still exhilarating. I was 15 and we didn't have helmets on as you didn't need them for off road then and the wind in my hair was amazing. I loved it. Of course, it might have been the boy as much as the motorcycle, come to think of it...

I've never been drawn to jumping out of planes or bungee jumping. But really, I am more the kind of person who is drawn to experiences, so I guess I kind of have a bucket list (there's only a couple of things on it though- one of which is a mystery holiday- like a mystery flight but there's a company in Australia where you pay a certain amount per night- between 1&7 nights- and you get flown to one of 28 destinations within Australia, four star accommodation- hopefully US has something like that too). Maybe I'm anti the anti-bucket list! However I only allow us great holidays every few years, need to exert self-control you know

Mine would include 'taking on a car note' (or financing ANY depreciating asset). And as I told my begging sons, 'having a pet snake'.

I'm with you on the caviar. Tried, it hated, hope to never do that again! I doubt I would go skydiving and I can't see myself hunting, though I too would go to a shooting range. I have no desire to go to the Super Bowl or the World Series, but it's not a "I hope I never have to" thing. My biggest "I hope I never" I think would be height, extreme, potential death things -- skydiving, base jumping, bungee jumping. I did go zip-lining though and that was lots of fun.

Meh. I am pretty go-with-the-flow and will probably try just about anything. So much FUN on your list!

I guess my personal anti-bucket list would be more like: I don't plan to borrow money to buy things I Can't really afford and I don't care about fancy car brands (or any expensive brands). I personally don't see the point of up-sizing my lifestyle, but a lot of that is a commitment to living within my means. If I won the lottery, I don't know if it really matters. (I am sure I Would be a very frugal lottery winner, in general, but I wouldn't rule out anything).

Sky diving and riding a motorcycle would be on my anti-bucket list. They just don't interest me at all. I could probably put learning to swim well on the list too. I attempted to learn when I was younger and was terrible at it, didn't enjoy it, and now I just don't see the benefit to bothering. I just follow water safety rules when boating and know where all the cute shirtless lifeguards are =)

Hey, I like your list! I don't think it is negative, perhaps more realistic. If I had a list one thing would be take a cruise. Some of our friends are all about these cruises and it just doesn't interest me. When I vacation, I like going to historical sites, not sit on boat, eat myself silly, and shop.

I would concur, motorcyles are on my anti-bucket list right up there with skydiving, bungee jumping, and eating strange critters.

Weird but my favourite nighttime dream ever was riding a motorcycle. I've never felt so free, unfettered and brave in my life. I hope to feel like that in real life one day.

You've got some fun/exciting/magical items on your list.. I've experienced 8. Although, when you say "own a boat" I don't think you mean a little aluminum one like we have.

I know, some of the items are really weird. But I just have this animal reaction, like "nope, not for me." Of course there are SO many experiences I DO want to have that cost money.

I think the main things that turn me off are physical risk, and any kind of death or cruelty. My shoulder is still healing from that stupid sledding accident when I didn't even want to go sledding in the first place. It never seems worth the risk of injury to do something fun, when there are so many fun things that don't have nearly as much inherent risk.

I don't know why owning a boat and playing golf turn me off. They just seem like a lot of work for a little payoff, I guess. And I'm not sure about the tattoo thing. Many people I know (including NT) have tattoos, and I don't mind them on others, and I'm not worried about the pain or anything. I've just never felt inspired by the thought of getting a tattoo.

Anyway, it's just meant to be an amusing list. I don't feel hugely strongly about any of it. Except fur coats and skydiving!

Ha, ha, I am in agreement on almost all of them. Life is too short to do silly, risky things, and the simple life is so much better than stuff, stuff, and more stuff. And doing anything because other people do it is a waste of spirit!

Yep. I feel you. There are things many people 'aspire' to that I have no interest in. It might be generational, especially when it comes to fur coats and diamonds. That meant something to older generations. My MIL has always been about jewelry and furs as gifts, and when the stuff started showing up at my house and I was horrified and uninterested, it blew her mind. She was kind of like "this is what you do. It shows you 'have arrived.'"

I had to have an uncomfortable conversation about "arriving." For me, it's not what you own or how much money you have, it's what you've accomplished. Oh well. Deaf ears.

I NEVER want to take the kids to Disney World. We have friends who mortgage their lives to take their kids on that 'dream' vacation and then are surprised when all they do is stand in line and fist fight to see the Frozen princesses. If I'm paying that kind of money, I will take my kids to Europe to go stay in real castles....

I've gone surfing (exhausting and scary, but glad I did it once), and I think I'd like to ski MORE, now that I've done it a few times. Also have tattoos (6 or 7?),

I find myself in agreement with lots of yours. My first husband had a big ole Harley and between the insurance, the worry, and his eventual spill, I'd never do it again. But I would own a small boat.

My list would have "never crash diet" on it. I had the most fabulous raspberry tart the other day ....
