Small bit of progress on retirement goal

February 16th, 2015 at 04:19 pm

The rough goal is $486,000 in retirement assets by 2019

In January we were at $230,639.

Now we're at $234,068.

$3249 of progress; not terrible considering how little we're currently putting into our retirement accounts!

So, what year do you plan to retire in? I'm pretty sure you're quite a bit younger than me.

    Thanks rob!

PatientSaver, I haven't really thought of when we'd retire. The formula I just started using ends at age 67. I'm figuring where NT and I should be at each age and where AS should be and adding them together. NT and I are about to turn 42 and 41. AS is going to be 36. In 2019, NT and I will be about 45 and AS will be 40, so I'm shooting for us to have the equivalent of 3x my income, 3x NT's income and 2x AS's income by 2019.

    In where our income is today, that would be $57K x 3 (NT), $65K x 3 (CJ) and $60K x 2 (AS). So that's where I get $486K.

I realize our incomes may be higher in four years, but it's a starting point. Incomes also go down or go away entirely, as you know, so it's really all just a guessing game!
