---
Total Assets: $593,337

Total Debt: $241,235

Current Estimated Net Worth: $352,102

January 2014 estimate: $350,340

Change in net worth: +$1,762

Summary: The market must not have been good this past month; our retirement funds increased by less than what we contributed. At least there wasn't a huge dive. We only paid off a modest amount of debt, so our overall change in net worth is OK, but not spectacular. I'm hoping for a big month in the markets soon, so I can see our assets hit the $600K mark!

I will update my "Individual Net Worth" page shortly so you can see how it breaks out per person.

Notes on the numbers above: House value estimates are approximate. I don't have a way to check NT's UK pensions or flat value, so their values stay static for the purpose of this update (unless I happen to get some info by chance). UK asset values and debt amounts are calculated figuring $1.60 for every British pound.

You may have plans to be in the UK soon but if not, it occurs that SA blogger 'My English Castle' is currently in London and can forward a Zwillow-like .com e-dress which would permit you a reasonable way to evaluate NT's flat pre update/upgrade and later. Is it true UK condos/apartments are valued at 3 - 5 times N American real estate values? Are similar sf condos in your bldg. listing higher this spring?

Actually, we did get a pretty recent estimate last year; although it may have changed a bit, I think we have a good sense of the flat's value.

It's true about home values! NT's flat is in a suburb of Oxford, and is about half the size of our US condo (it's only got 1 bedroom, teeny kitchen, bathroom is only accessible through the bedroom, no dining area ...). The US one is minutes from downtown Minneapolis, so the location is much more desirable (as are the size and features -- it's 2 bedrooms, open plan living area including dining area, balcony with beautiful views from the 18th floor, pool on the roof, exercise and party rooms ...). Yet the value is 65% of the UK flat's value. (And I'd say I'm being generous with the US value; not sure we could actually make a sale at that price if we put it on the market tomorrow, even if our renovations were already done.)
