May 2025 net worth update

May 31st, 2025 at 06:40 pm

Finally a decent month for retirement growth. We're at Coast FIRE with a surplus of $72K; the calculator says I could plan to retire at 64 instead of 65 and still be Coast!

It really really burns me that while I'm riding the waves of market volatility, all sorts of speculators with inside info are getting even richer by figuring out when some stupid Trump move is gonna make the market crash and rise again. But whatever. Just gonna keep on keeping on.

It's a big difference to wait until 70 for SS, isn't it? I plan to do that - I hope there are no snags in that plan.

Yeah, I hope Trump will stay silent about the his own Tariff garbage. Make it disappear quietly, because it has been nothing but turmoil for all of us whenever he opens his big mouth about it. I'll never understand people who thought it was a good idea to vote for this idiot. Other Republicans, I can get, but not this one. Ok sorry to ramble, and glad your net worth has gone up.

I agree LifeBalance -- my hope is to live on our other funds and put off SS until we're 70.

I agree Tabs. I've never voted for a Republican but others look a lot better by comparison! (Though most of the halfway reasonable/honorable ones have been voted out and replaced with Trump puppets...)

The issue with waiting until 70 is health. What if you wait and then die at 70? I think the thing to look at is the balance of what are the chances you will make the breakeven point of 87?

My mom incorrectly took it at 62, but mostly because she should have taken 50% from my dad already retired and 21 years older. Then held her off until 70. She was foolish because she was in the group of women who could have done it.

It's a tough decision on whether to take it before 70 or not...If you can, that's great, but if health issues crop up, one has to decide what works for them.

I agree Tabs and ceejay74...it's painful to see the losses. A little is made up, but then a bigger loss.
