NT's UK pensions:
#1: 12,663 pounds ($25,326)
#2: 16,005 pounds ($32,010)
#3: 3,709 pounds ($7,418)
NT's 401(k): $10,812
AS's 401(k): $4,540
AS's IRA: $1,682
CJ's 401(k): $36,526
NT's flat: 130,000 pounds ($260,000)
CJ & AS's condo: $160,000
Baby/emergency fund (shared asset): $8,686
---
Total Assets: $547,000
Total Debt: $355,017
Current Estimated Net Worth: $191,983
October 2010 estimate: $188,624
Change in net worth: +$3,359
Summary: Weird, our assets came to an even thousand! All of our U.S. retirement funds posted gains and we paid off a moderate amount of debt, so we had a nice gain in net worth this month.
I will update my "Individual Net Worth" page shortly so you can see how it breaks out per person.
Notes on the numbers above: House value estimates are fairly conservative. I don't have a way to check NT's UK pensions or flat value, so their values stay static for the purpose of this update (unless I happen to get some info by chance). UK asset values and debt amounts are calculated figuring $2 for every British pound, which was the exchange rate when I started keeping track. I maintain that ratio for the purpose of tracking progress, even though the exchange rate is now closer to $1.60 per British pound.

Summary: All of our U.S. retirement funds posted gains, and I also got an annual notice of gains on one of NT's UK pensions. We also of course paid off the last credit card, so debt decreased by a bit. All in all a great month! I don't expect I'll do much with either debt or savings for the rest of the year, so our gains will probably be more modest. But I do plan to start Roth IRA accounts for all of us in 2011, so that will help the balance sheet.

Summary: All of our U.S. retirement funds posted gains. Add in the largish amount of debt I was able to pay down since the last net worth update, and we've got a pretty impressive increase on our hands! I don't think we'll crack $200K this year, but barring any more major losses in real estate value or our retirement investments, we should get there in early 2011.

Summary: My 401(k) lost a few hundred bucks, but we paid off enough debt to still see a small gain in net worth. Nothing like when NT discovers forgotten pension plans, though!
AS and I hit an exciting milestone: positive combined net worth. Our finances have been tied together since she was 18 and I was 23, so I kind of consider them to still be combined. Well, my net worth hit $24,612 and hers is negative $24,547, so together we're at positive $65! Woo hoo, we're not dragging NT's down anymore. It's all uphill from here, I hope!

Summary: All our retirement accounts and the EF showed modest gains (NT's 401k did especially well because his company dumped a $700 bonus in there). We also paid off over $1K of debt. But there was another huge leap this month, nearly as big as last month's, due to my finally confirming there was a third pension account in the UK that NT had forgotten he had.

May 2010 estimate: $151,034
Change in net worth: +$12,539
Summary: My 401(k) lost $1 in value (which means it lost more like $300 since I also made contributions). What an annoying figure! LOL.
You may notice a kind of huge leap in net worth. Well, for one of NT's UK retirement plans that I hadn't updated in years, I finally looked at a statement and tried to ascertain the current value. It was about US $10,000 higher. We also paid off some debt and made small gains in other areas, i.e., the EF and some of the U.S. retirement accounts.

I just posted an entry linking to an article calculating Text is presidents' individual net worth and Link is http://ceejay74.savingadvice.com/2010/05/19/presidents-net-worth_59216/ presidents' individual net worth. It reminded me that it's about time for a net worth update!
Assets:
NT's UK pensions: 7,250 pounds ($14,500)
14,721 pounds ($29,442)
NT's 401(k): $8,119
AS's 403(b): $3,237
AS's IRA: $1,682
AS's 401(k): $353
CJ's 401(k): $31,745
NT's flat: 130,000 pounds ($260,000)
CJ & AS's condo: $160,000
Baby/emergency fund (shared asset): $8,355
---
Total Assets: $517,433
Total Debt: $366,399
Current Estimated Net Worth: $151,034
April 2010 estimate: $152,639
Change in net worth: -$1,605
Summary: We suffered a dip in net worth for the first time in ages. NT's and my 401(k) accounts lost about $4K total, and small gains for AS and the baby/EF, as well as a modest decrease in our debt, weren't enough to offset that. I wasn't aware there was market volatility this month, beyond that one crazy day on Wall Street.
I will update my "Individual Net Worth" page shortly so you can see how it breaks out.

First, some fun news. Little Miss AA has a positive net worth of $238! We haven't even begun trying to save anything for her--we need to clean up our own finances much more first--but her UK grandpa gave her $210, and NT's office had a baby-name pool where the winner decided to hand the $28 prize over to the baby!
I don't think I'll be tracking her net worth as part of ours, since of course she'll be making her own way someday. But I thought it was neat that she already has some money to her name. We hope to teach her to be a saver (and a smart spender) early on so she doesn't make as many youthful mistakes as we did.
Anyway, on to our net worth.
Assets:
NT's UK pensions: 7,250 pounds ($14,500)
14,721 pounds ($29,442)
NT's 401(k): $8,247
AS's 403(b): $3,237
AS's IRA: $1,682
AS's 401(k): $328
CJ's 401(k): $34,388
NT's flat: 130,000 pounds ($260,000)
CJ & AS's condo: $160,000
Baby/emergency fund (shared asset): $8,304
---
Total Assets: $520,128
Total Debt: $367,489
Current Estimated Net Worth: $152,639
March 2010 estimate: $147,011
Change in net worth: +$5,628
Summary: We paid off a big chunk of debt and had some nice gains in our retirement accounts. Oh, and I did some research on our home's value and am fairly satisfied that $160K is still a valid number. If we had to offload it in a hurry, we'd probably have trouble getting that amount, but if we had time to fix it up and let it be listed for a while, it would eventually sell at that price, I believe. Since we won't need to sell any time soon, I'm going to leave it at that value.
I will update my "Individual Net Worth" page shortly so you can see how it breaks out.

Current Estimated Net Worth: $147,011
February 2010 estimate: $143,201
Change in net worth: +$3,810
Summary: Despite not paying off very much debt, we got a nice bump because our retirement accounts performed well this month. So far we've managed to cashflow all the baby-related expenses, so we haven't dipped into the baby/EF even a little bit! I haven't had a chance to look at sale prices for condos in my building, so I don't know whether I need to lower my estimated value of our place. So I left it as is for this month.
I will update my "Individual Net Worth" page shortly so you can see how it breaks out.

January 2010 estimate: $135,321
Change in net worth: +$7,880
Summary: My dad cashed all the checks I gave him since my last update, so our net worth skyrocketed! I would be happier if I hadn't gotten a disturbing piece of mail: My property valuation by the county went down from about $151K to about $137K. Yikes! I haven't changed it on the info above because I go by sale prices, so I'll start watching for how comparable units in my condo are selling, and adjust my assets next time if necessary.
In other good news, though, I got a peek at how AS's old 403(b) account is doing--it's been gaining 6% all along, but I wasn't able to see that, so I got to record it as a nice lump gain this time. She also opened her 401(k) at her new job and we added $80 to her IRA. So her individual net worth should show a nice little bump (which may or may not be crushed next month by our condo's falling value, but c'est la vie).
I will update my "Individual Net Worth" page shortly so you can see how it breaks out.

Summary: I decided to do my net worth calculation at the usual time of month, and to count this as my year-end net worth, even though a couple small payments will go through by the end of the year. It seems more consistent this way.
Our retirement accounts barely increased at all, but of course we paid off my Capital One personal loan, so our net worth still saw a healthy increase.

October 2009 estimate: $116,484
Change in net worth: +$11,187
Summary: OK, we made a HUGE leap in net worth, but let me explain. I don't get regular info on NT's UK pensions, but I happened to look at a piece of mail we got, rather than just filing it away uncomprehendingly, and realized that one of his pensions had jumped quite a bit in the 3+ years since he gave me the initial balance. So that gradual increase is recorded as a big leap here.
I also paid off a healthy chunk of debt, and all our other retirement accounts increased modestly, so that all contributed to the change.
After Creditcardfree's post about getting close to six figures on their retirement funds, I got curious about ours. Turns out we're at $85,084, so quite a ways to go before we hit six figures. But it's better than nothing!
I will update my "Individual Net Worth" page shortly so you can see how it breaks out.

I just updated the Individual Net Worth page and realized that my net worth is finally positive for the first time in my adult life! Yep folks, I'm worth $598 more than I owe. Woo hoo!
AS is the only one who still has negative individual net worth. The main reasons we're not making faster progress on hers are that all her debt is "better" debt than mine (meaning we at least get tax relief on the interest), and she doesn't have much of a retirement fund yet so it doesn't reflect the big ups and downs of the market. But we're chipping away at her debt and gradually building up some retirement savings, So her net worth has improved by $4K-$5K this year. But it'll be awhile before her net worth starts to grow by leaps and bounds. (She's also the youngest, which is another reason her retirement funds aren't as big.)

Assets:
NT's UK pensions: 7,250 pounds ($14,500)
10,725 pounds ($21,450)
NT's 401(k): $6,191
AS's 403(b): $2,888
AS's CD: $500
AS retirement savings: $605
CJ's 401(k): $29,296
NT's flat: 130,000 pounds ($260,000)
CJ & AS's condo: $160,000
Baby/emergency fund (shared asset): $6,177
---
Total Assets: $501,607
Total Debt: $389,562
Current Estimated Net Worth: $112,045
August 2009 estimate: $105,301
Change in net worth: +$6,744
Summary: Retirement funds were up up up, and debt went down down down. I'd have to check past entries but I think this is one of our best monthly gains ever!
Our total assets finally rose back above the half-million mark again, where they haven't been in a long time!
I will update my "Individual Net Worth" page shortly so you can see how it breaks out.
Notes on the numbers above: House value estimates are conservative. I don't have a way to check NT's UK pensions or flat value, so their values stay static for the purpose of this update. UK asset values and debt amounts are calculated figuring $2 for every British pound, which was the exchange rate when I started keeping track. I maintain that ratio for the purpose of tracking progress, even though the exchange rate is now closer to $1.50 per British pound.

Total Debt: $391,851

June 2009 estimate: $99,744
Change in net worth: +$5,557
Summary: Wow! We shot past the $100,000 mark much further than I predicted. NT and I combined gained over $3000 in 401(k) worths. I also set aside a bit for AS and into our EF. We paid off a modest amount of debt as well.
Looks like our total assets are nearing the $500,000 mark again, where they haven't been in a loong time! Should get there by the end of the year...
I will update my "Individual Net Worth" page shortly so you can see how it breaks out.

Summary: We're within spitting distance of the $100K net worth mark, thanks to some debt payoff and upticks in our EF and all our retirement accounts. The economy is so much in flux that I'm not sure we'll get there next month, but as long as the markets don't plunge we should make it.
I will update my "Individual Net Worth" page shortly so you can see how it breaks out.

Summary: While not quite as big a gain as the past two months, this is a healthy increase; a combination of increased savings, debt reduction and market recovery.
I will update my "Individual Net Worth" page shortly so you can see how it breaks out.

Total Debt: $399,200
Current Estimated Net Worth: $88,435
March 2009 estimate: $84,523
Change in net worth: +$3,912
Summary: Interesting coincidence: Last month our net worth increased by $3,911, this month by $3,912!
My and NT's retirement accounts both showed some small gains, and we added to our EF. Plus we paid off an OK amount of debt. Our net worth is slowly clawing its way back up, after huge losses in retirement-fund values and home value.
I will update my "Individual Net Worth" page shortly so you can see how it breaks out.

February 2009 estimate: $80,612
Change in net worth: +$3,911
Summary: With all the excitement recently (especially NT being free of CC debt!!), I nearly forgot to do our net worth for March. My 401(k) actually increased in value, as did NT's, and we paid off a good amount of debt, so we gained some ground in our net worth.
I will update my "Individual Net Worth" page shortly so you can see how it breaks out.

Total Debt: $403,226
Current Estimated Net Worth: $80,612
January 2009 estimate: $83,649
Change in net worth: -$3,037
Summary: We paid off a ton of debt and added our emergency fund as an asset. Still, it wasn't enough to stop the bleeding: My 401(k) lost about a grand, and I confirmed from two sources that our condo is worth $10K less than the last time I valued it.
For all I know, the UK condo has plunged in value as well. And NT's UK retirement assets. We could be just breaking even or, even worse, have a negative collective net worth. If I find anything out about those numbers, I will update them accordingly.
I will update my "Individual Net Worth" page shortly so you can see how it breaks out.

Total Debt: $408,579
Current Estimated Net Worth: $83,649
December 2008 estimate: $81,526
Change in net worth: +$2,123
Summary: NT's and AS's retirement increased, but not enough to cover a loss of about $550 in my 401(k). So the jump in net worth is entirely due to paying down debt.
I haven't included my savings for the baby/emergency fund; I feel like that money is still in play and not secure enough to call an asset. Does anyone else count their emergency fund as assets?
I will update my "Individual Net Worth" page shortly so you can see how it breaks out.

Total Debt: $411,044
Current Estimated Net Worth: $81,526
November 2008 estimate: $78,119
Change in net worth: +$3,407
Summary: We paid off at least $1,500 in debt; AS and I showed small gains in our retirement accounts; AS has a new CD in her name; and NT's bonus included 401(k) contribution (with matching!), so his account's value went up nearly $1,000.

Total Debt: $412,536
Current Estimated Net Worth: $78,119
October 2008 estimate: $75,944
Change in net worth: +$2,175
Summary: We paid off more than $3,000 in debt, but my 401(k) tanked more than $1,000. However, AS and NT both showed small gains in their retirement accounts, so we had a good month overall. (I bet our U.S. condo value dipped even more, but I'll wait till I have proof of that.)
I will update my "Individual Net Worth" page shortly so you can see how it breaks out. (Hint: NT's nice net worth is still weighed down by AS's and my negative net worth.)

Summary: We paid off more than $3,000 in debt, but my 401(k) tanked more than that. And I finally decided to bite the bullet and list the U.S. condo at its probable market value, so we lost another $12K there. NT lost about $50 in his U.S. 401(k), but AS's retirement fund miraculously gained a tiny bit in value. It's a well-managed fund--the only thing we'll miss about her job!
Anyway, it's our first loss in net worth since I started tracking, and it looks bad. But I have faith in our condo and my 401(k) to eventually rebound.

Summary: All our U.S. retirement funds went up in value a bit this month, and we paid off a healthy amount of debt, resulting in our biggest jump in net worth for a while. If I were able to keep up this pace, we'd crack $100K by the end of the year! Unlikely, but not impossible.

Total Debt: $424,704
Current Estimated Net Worth: $82,578
June 2008 estimate: $81,447
Change in net worth: +$1,131
Summary: My 401(k) again lost value, so our assets went down a bit despite gains in AS's 403(b) and NT's 401(k). Our debt repayment was very modest this month, but it gave us a bump in net worth anyway.
Info from a couple sources leads me to believe that I'd struggle to sell our U.S. condo at the amount listed above; it would probably go for more like $175,000. But I noticed that a 2BR UK condo in the same development as NT's 1BR just sold for 185,000 pounds ($370,000). So I'm sure my valuation of his house is very conservative. Therefore I'm just going to leave both house values as is for the purposes of this tracking.
