Credit score :(

Well, Capital One wrote us a letter telling us that they went ahead and reported NT's late payment, so our phone call was useless.

Today the mortgage guy let me know that NT's credit score is currently in the 600s because of showing as being over 30 days past due on that account.

So he's going to try and qualify just AS and me for a refi. NT will still be put on the loan (if we do the refi) but will not be included on the qualifying info.

    This is going to depress his score for two years. I would ask NT to pursue this by certified mail, citing the date and time the CSR told him it would be removed and reiterating it was an error made because of confusion about which card was used and that had NT been aware of the mistake, he would have immediately fixed it. Does not hurt to try because you may be stuck with this mortgage otherwise.

    Yuck. It might indeed be worth trying to resolve--or putting the addendum on the report.

    We're stuck with this mortgage regardless. Best rate the broker could get for us without a ton of closing costs is 4.6%. As you pointed out, we effectively have 4.6% now. Once more of our regular income is freed up I'm going to put us on an accelerated payment schedule so we can at least get rid of the mortgage sooner than the 30-year term.

    Rates change. Who knows, rates could drop half a point next week. In your shoes, I would ask NT to try to fix this.

    If rates drop, AS and I can qualify for refi without his score, according to mortgage guy...
