Two little worries, trying not to let them get to me

March 27th, 2016 at 02:45 pm

I've got two potential worries right now, but unless they actually materialize into real problems I'm trying not to let them get to me.

First, one of my breasts has been slightly sore for about two weeks. I saw my doctor and while she didn't feel anything, she's sending me for a full battery of tests (sonogram etc.). That's in a little less than two weeks. So I'm trying not to worry until I learn more.

Then, my tax guy emailed me to ask about the WV money. He'd advised me on how much to withhold for taxes on the assumption that it would be capital gains, but he says the documents from the gas co. imply it's ordinary income. He says that would make quite a difference.

He asked me to email my siblings and see what their tax people said. One emailed back and told me hers said it was ordinary income. I'll wait a bit more and see if anyone says anything else, but if not, I guess that's what my tax guy will call it, and now I'm worried that I'll have a big tax bill beyond what I put into savings.

But, again, I don't know how much that means, or even if that's true, so I'm trying not to worry that much.

Money can be found, and health things can be dealt with. Even though we don't have an EF to speak of, we have AS's income which isn't allocated to anything, so we could use it to pay tax and medical bills. Even if we had to put off renovations for a year or two, at least we've got lots of nice trips planned and basically paid for already.

Try not to worry on either score. (Easy to say, I know!) Anyway, I think that slight soreness in the breast is not a red flag, but it's still good that your doctor is following up.

Yes, a follow up is good but not necessarily too much to be concerned about. My sister had a minimal procedure down on some breast tissue that was abnormal looking...and in the end nothing. Kind of nerve wracking in the meantime. Apparently there are essential oils that can help with breast health...my mom is sending me some.

I know you will make any tax bill work. The IRS does take payments too if needed.

Thanks you guys! Confirming what I'm thinking, on both fronts. Possible stumbling blocks and/or hassles but nothing too threatening to life or finances overall. Both are kind of bumming me out today, but probably because I don't have anything pressing to do, which is giving me time to mope. When I'm back at my job tomorrow, my work will take my mind off it, hopefully.

If it's up to a certain amount I'll be able to pay in full and float the tax payment while I wait for AS's paychecks to come in, since we plan our bills ahead and always have several grand in the bank, but good to know I can set up a payment plan if need be!

Good luck and prayers on your health. Not sure about the tax problem. Why do you have no EF?

Basically because we have so much unallocated money in our budget that we can just cashflow emergencies. We typically have a few thousand at hand that's unallocated (right this second it's more like $1400, but that's because we just made some major travel purchases) and thousands more that are allocated for bills in the future. Even if we couldn't, say, cashflow it immediately, we could start directing future checks toward it. We have enough float in our budget to cover something unexpected.

I'll probably build an EF again at some point, but we've had many other priorities for the past couple years.

Well, I'm with everyone else. Yes, it's hard to have these unknowns floating around, but there's no sense worrying too much until you know what you're dealing with.

Healthwise, I had a few weird things like that in the years after I had the children, but it all turned out to be nothing. It was just my body readjusting to life and hormones post child-bearing. Hopefully it will be the same for you.

I hope both worries turn out to be for nothing.
