Tuesday (8th) I didn't spend much quality time with the kids after work/daycare, but it was because I was on the computer ordering photo calendars and other gifts for my and AS's parents. So at least it was family-oriented time!
And after I was done, I played a game with AS and AA where AA was a teacher or librarian and AS and I were her students. It made me realize it must suck to be a kid sometimes and be under constant scrutiny by adults -- I kept getting in trouble for making faces and talking without raising my hand. I think it was a good outlet for rule-abiding AA to get to boss and scold grown-ups for a change.
Wednesday (9th) we got thrown a big curveball, when NT's bike slid on some black ice on the way to work and he broke his collarbone! Just a couple days before he was remembering last year's illness and how he had a bad back for much of the holiday, and looking forward to a Xmas free of pain and painkillers. Oh well! He got a cast and some Oxycodone and has to take it easy for a while. I guess making tea and bringing him dinner and pills counts as family time.
I did get some quality time with SL when we turned off the TV early (yes, we let our kids watch it kind of a lot) and I read her some Dr. Seuss books. She's starting to memorize How the Grinch Stole Christmas (she has an incredible memory for books and songs), so we read that one twice.
She has started to ask for a hug and a tickle instead of a hug and kiss at bedtime. That kid is crazy about getting tickled -- any excuse! I don't think I actually ever really tickle her, because she immediately flops over laughing as soon as my finger pokes her side. It's just the concept that she finds hilarious.
