Progress on the December debt goal

December 1st, 2011 at 07:51 pm

All our mortgage payments hit today:
US: $435 to principal
UK1: $264
UK2: $56
UK3: $58

All told, that's $813 down, $1147 to go on the December goal.

I know I sound like a broken record, but my payments from Oct. 10 and last week still haven't posted to NT's student loan account. I'm going to keep sending one payment per month and estimating the amount to principal. I mean, it's a huge student loan organization. It'll have to apply my payments someday, right? They keep coming out of my checking account OK.

I briefly considered putting extra money toward a different debt until this glitch is cleared up, but his loan has the highest interest by far, so I can't bring myself to divert funds elsewhere. Just hoping they make good on their promise to apply payments retroactively so the interest isn't really accumulating as fast as it appears to be.

I bet you did the right thing sending in more to the highest interest. I have my fingers crossed they will get their site updated soon. In the meantime, can they send you a statement in the mail? Or even by email?

I don't think so, CCF. They've received my payments and were able to confirm the amounts. But when I asked what my principal balance was, it was still the same as I have recorded pre-payments. So they genuinely have not put the payments toward my debt; it's not just a website glitch! A paper statement would say I haven't made any payments since September.

It boggles the mind that in this day and age, there's no way for them to apply a payment -- which they acknowledge they've received -- in a two-month time period. What the heck are they doing, I wonder? Maybe going through alphabetically; my last name begins with R so maybe I'm near the end of the list!

Rant away. It is utterly ridiculous, not to mention unprofessional that they have not applied the money to your account. How far up the chain of command have you gone?

I haven't tried going past the current customer service rep. I was thinking about trying to speak directly to a tech (supposedly they're the ones getting payments processed), but I felt too tired to try today. Maybe tomorrow. Smile
