Completed January 'green' goal!

January 12th, 2009 at 01:39 am

Tonight, I finally buckled down and washed the pile of bags that I got behind on over the holidays.

I washed 27 Ziploc and produce bags and hung them up to dry. It feels good because we just ran out of Ziplocs, but now we won't have to buy any more, at least for a while.

Good to get one goal completely out of the way, especially the most tedious one. Smile

lol, I use to complain when my mom reused ziploc bags but now I do the same thing, no need to waste money

It's true, but my main goal is to quit discarding plastic after one use. Those Brita commercials about water bottles have been making a big impression on me.

i have been slowly building up a collection of good quality plastic containers instead of using freezer bags for BF's and the dogs meat to keep in the freezer, as well as frozen vegetables and left overs (instead of wrapping in clingwrap). it feels good to do just that little bit.

That's a good tip! I do try to remember to use Tupperware, like today I put some cookies in one instead of a Ziploc. We're eventually going to need some more plastic containers, so I'm going to go to the green store nearby and see what they suggest.

I was washing ziplocks long before it became so controversial!

LOL Another one here that thought that was crazy, but who now does it regularly. Saving money - bonus. Saving money and the environment - even better!

i recommend containers with clip-top lids. they are much sturdier Smile they can be a bit more pricey, but we bought a whole heap about four years ago and they are still going strong. not a single one has broken.
