Total Assets: $908,790

Total Debt: $488,621

Current Estimated Net Worth: $420,169

May 2015 estimate: $381,007

Change in net worth: +$39,162

Summary: Awesome change in net worth, though it could have been even better. I started a new retirement account for AS with nearly $4100 in it and added $1800 to her Roth as well as my and NT's regular 401(k) contributions, but we lost over $3000 total among our other retirement account values. We paid off over $39,000 of debt, but also added over $3000 of debt to the duplex mortgage when we refinanced.

I'll update the Individual Net Worth page shortly, breaking it out by person.

Notes on the numbers above: House value estimates are approximate. I don't have a way to check NT's UK pensions or flat value, so their values stay static for the purpose of this update (unless I happen to get some info by chance). UK asset values and debt amounts are calculated figuring $1.60 for every British pound.

April 2015 net worth update

April 15th, 2015 at 08:19 pm

Assets:
NT's UK pensions:
#1: 17,105 pounds ($27,368)
#2: 20,501 pounds ($32,801)
#3: 4,452 pounds ($7,123)

NT's flat: 140,000 pounds ($224,000)
CJ/NT/AS house: $440,000
---
Total Assets: $902,921

Total Debt: $525,360

Current Estimated Net Worth: $377,561

February 2015 estimate: $366,009

Change in net worth: +$11,552

Summary: Apparently all our recent property doings -- including selling the condo at a loss -- and shifting around of debt did have a net positive effect! Some of this gain was due to decent performance of our retirement accounts, but a lot of it was from debt reduction.

It was kind of fun to have our assets worth over a million bucks, and now with the condo sale they're below that. But we'll get up there again eventually! At least our debt is getting close to going below the half-million mark. That'll be a relief.

I'll update the Individual Net Worth page shortly, breaking it out by person.

Notes on the numbers above: House value estimates are approximate. I don't have a way to check NT's UK pensions or flat value, so their values stay static for the purpose of this update (unless I happen to get some info by chance). Current Estimated Net Worth: $366,009

February 2015 estimate: $365,298

Change in net worth: +$711

Summary: This teeny-weeny net worth increase was only due to paying off debt. Our retirement values actually decreased slightly this month, losing more value than the money we put into them. Ouch!

I'll update the Individual Net Worth page shortly, breaking it out by person.

Notes on the numbers above: House value estimates are approximate. I don't have a way to check NT's UK pensions or flat value, so their values stay static for the purpose of this update (unless I happen to get some info by chance). Summary: The market dipped down again and we lost about half the net worth we gained last month. Overall it's been a stagnant couple of months, then.

I'll update the Individual Net Worth page shortly, breaking it out by person.

Change in net worth: +$24,500

Summary: The market turned upward again and we reversed the losses of last month plus added some value. One of NT's UK accounts sent a statement which boosted its value, and his company gave some bonus 401(k) money as well. All in all, a great month for net worth!

I'll update the Individual Net Worth page shortly, breaking it out by person.

Total Debt: $679,079

Current Estimated Net Worth: $339,481

September 2014 estimate: $351,278

Change in net worth: -$11,797

Summary: Debt repayment couldn't outpace the market downturn that hit all our retirement funds, especially since we haven't been contributing anything to our Roths. Also, I downgraded the value of the US condo to our current sale price (though it's going to end up being worth less than that with the money we have to pay to sell it).

I'll update the Individual Net Worth page shortly, breaking it out by person.

CJ's Roth IRA: $7,292
NT's flat: 140,000 pounds ($224,000)
CJ & AS's condo: $145,000
CJ/NT/AS house: $440,000
---
Total Assets: $1,028,714

Total Debt: $682,221

Current Estimated Net Worth: $346,493

July 2014 estimate: $379,845

Change in net worth: -$33,352

Summary: I decided to go with Redfin value minus 6% for the value of the new home, which means the debt we took on is greater than the asset value we took on. So that meant a large drop in our net worth. Also, the markets were flat to slightly negative and we didn't put as much into retirement as usual, so there was no help there to our net worth. And we didn't pay down much debt either.

Assets are up over a million dollars in worth! But that will drop back down once we sell our condo.

I'll update the Individual Net Worth page shortly, breaking it out by person.

---
Total Assets: $617,372

Total Debt: $237,527

Current Estimated Net Worth: $379,845

June 2014 estimate: $375,997

Change in net worth: +$3,848

Summary: An OK growth month. We would have gone up about $450 more had we made our Roth IRA contributions, but those are on hold until December (we'll do make-up contributions for all the months we miss between now and then).

Next month, expect way bigger debt but also way bigger home value!

I included U.S. savings for a home in our assets, since the money will go toward our down payment on the new home, which will become an asset. I did not include our UK savings, because the UK flat's value listed above is contingent upon the renovations that will wipe out our UK savings.

I'll update the Individual Net Worth page shortly, breaking it out by person.

Summary: Big growth again this month! Some of the increase is due to upward movement in our retirement funds; the rest because we've been saving aggressively for a home.

I included U.S. savings for a home in our assets, since the money will go toward our down payment on the new home, which will become an asset. I did not include our UK savings, because the UK flat's value listed above is contingent upon the renovations that will wipe out our UK savings.

Summary: Big growth, and we finally achieved $600K in assets! Some of the increase is due to upward movement in our retirement funds; the rest because we've been saving aggressively for a home.

I decided to include U.S. savings for a home in our assets, since the money will either go toward renovating (i.e. increasing the value of our current home) or to buying equity/adding value in a new home. Total Debt: $241,235

Current Estimated Net Worth: $352,102

January 2014 estimate: $350,340

Change in net worth: +$1,762

Summary: The market must not have been good this past month; our retirement funds increased by less than what we contributed. At least there wasn't a huge dive. We only paid off a modest amount of debt, so our overall change in net worth is OK, but not spectacular. I'm hoping for a big month in the markets soon, so I can see our assets hit the $600K mark!

I will update my "Individual Net Worth" page shortly so you can see how it breaks out per person.

Notes on the numbers above: House value estimates are approximate. I don't have a way to check NT's UK pensions or flat value, so their values stay static for the purpose of this update (unless I happen to get some info by chance). UK asset values and debt amounts are calculated figuring $1.60 for every British pound.

April 2013 estimate: $263,203

Change in net worth: +$37,923 (over 2 months)

Summary: I didn't do a net worth calculation in May because of our vacation, so this covers two months of progress. And, just like that, we're back up to $300K net worth! Retirement went up quite a bit, debt went down, but the biggest contributing factor was finding out that NT's home was worth 140K pounds instead of our estimated 125K. That right there added $24K to our assets.

I will update my "Individual Net Worth" page shortly so you can see how it breaks out per person.

Summary: We haven't had as much progress as I would have hoped because of a student loan payment hung up in the ether somewhere, and some freelance checks we haven't received. Despite that, we had modest gains in all our retirement funds and got rid of a bit of debt, so we did all right.

Total Debt: $277,633

Current Estimated Net Worth: $243,944

August 2012 estimate: $308,187

Change in net worth: -$64,243

Summary: It looks terrible, but actually we did very well in retirement fund performance, debt payoff and savings.

What happened is I "trued up" our accounts using the current pounds-to-dollars exchange rate, reassessed our home values, and moved some money out of the EF into our medical fund (which I don't count among our assets).

Now we can start building toward a TRUE net worth of $300K.

I will update my "Individual Net Worth" page shortly so you can see how it breaks out per person.

Total Debt: $299,943

Current Estimated Net Worth: $308,187

August 2012 estimate: $299,508

Change in net worth: +$8,679

Summary: We did it! We surpassed the 2012 goal of $300,000 net worth. (On paper, that is.)

I'm going to "true up" our accounts soon using the current pounds-to-dollars exchange rate and reassessing our home values, so our debt, assets and net worth are all going to go way down.

I will update my "Individual Net Worth" page shortly so you can see how it breaks out per person.

Notes on the numbers above: House value estimates are very approximate. I don't have a way to check NT's UK pensions or flat value, so their values stay static for the purpose of this update (unless I happen to get some info by chance). UK asset values and debt amounts are calculated figuring $2 for every British pound, which was the exchange rate when I started keeping track. Starting in 2013 I'm going to use the true current exchange rate, which is now closer to $1.60 per British pound.
