A plethora of paper bags

August 13th, 2016 at 03:58 pm

We bit the bullet and paid the year's membership to Instacart. It just adds so much to our weekend to have someone else do the grocery shopping.

But there's one small problem: They don't use reusable bags, and they double-bag (which I can understand because they don't want the strap breaking while delivering). But now we're accumulating a massive pile of paper bags.

What can be done with them? They're perfectly good, but we have no use for them.

They can be recycled. Use them to put your donations to charity in. Offer them on a Facebook page for free. Use them for art paper for the kids. I use ours to collect paper that we recycle.

I use my paper bags for collecting junk mail, newspapers and cardboard, which is all recycled at the transfer station or put out at curb.

When I was growing up, we'd always use brown paper bags to wrap our schoolbooks in. Not sure if anyone does that anymore but it does protect the books.

Have you checked with your children's teachers? Many times schools love donations of things like paper bags-so many uses!

Our local senior center uses plastic grocery bags to deliver Meals on Wheels to the elderly and disabled. If you have a local senior center close they might love to have the bags.

lirpalynn beat me to it, I was going to mention school, but I will also add that thrift shops and food pantries would probably love to have these bags.

Thanks for the great ideas! I love the thought of donating them. I found a place that delivers meals to people living with serious illnesses, and paper grocery bags with handles were on their list of suggested donations. Bit of a hike, but if I can't find anything else I'll bring my bags to them.

How about returning them to the delivery company?
