I'm the CFO of a three-adult, two-child, two-cat household. There's me (CJ, age 49), my husband (NT, age 50), my wife (AS, age 44), and our kids AA (age 13) and SL (age 11). The cats are named Whiskey and Clue and they're about 12 years old.

Until July 2007 we hadn't been serious about financial stability, but then we started focusing on paying down our massive debt, building an emergency fund and saving for retirement. In October 2010, we finished paying off all of our credit card debt--over $70,000! Adding in student loans and mortgages, we've paid off more than $250,000 of debt so far. In June 2015, we used a windfall to pay off all our remaining non-home-related debt!

Buy a rental property in Minneapolis in 2022

8x income by age 65 OR Coast FIRE by 2031 (tracking retirement in two ways at the moment)

Completely debt-free by age 65 (2039)

Second day of Family December

Yesterday, AA was telling me a story she'd learned at kindergarten (The Gingerbread Man), and it was so good I asked her to do it again while I filmed her. Then I posted the video on Youtube so distant grandparents will be able to see it. (I did the same thing with SL "reading" a book she memorized a few days ago.)

Then, AS and NT and I went out for dinner to celebrate 10 years of being together and 9 years of marriage. We had a wonderful meal and a surprisingly deep conversation about goals, causes, childrearing and other things. It left me feeling very inspired and close to my family.

YAY! Love that. I was under the weather yesterday, with a sick teenager - and the "fun time" was Little Cesar's pizza and watching The Walking Dead at 4:30 PM. My husband worked from home, thus the early dinner. No real conversation, just family bonding time over zombies.

What a bonus those unexpected moments of closeness in synchronicity. I am thrilled about your family December, as I came into SA blogs through you in Dec '12 and because of applying the thoughts of you and the SA community my family is in a better place.

Thank you for sharing such blessed joy. What a wonderful start to your family holiday plans. I returned home yesterday and was horrified to see terror on TV yet again. I'm totally out of step with friends just now, I only see how shallow their concerns about 'keeping up with the Jones' gifting schemes get.

I'm desperate to hear someone set their ego aside to do something kind.
