The best thing about my job

January 14th, 2014 at 11:28 pm

Hands down, it's the paid time off. Not only do they give a generous number of holidays, plus some extra days before or after holidays sometimes (which you can take another day if you have to work the actual day), but vacation accrues at a very satisfactory rate, for an American company.

Between carryover, increased accrual and other factors, I found out today that I have 26.5 vacation days and 10 sick days. These days, time off with the potential to do nothing is one of the most precious commodities to me! Even though I'll have to use quite a bit when our British visitors are in town this year, I'm going to make sure to carve out a few do-nothing days for myself.

Very nice! My husband gets good paid time off, but he doesn't use it like he should. In fact he has 53 days of time off right now. It really is time for some vacation planning. Smile

yes, that's the best thing about my job, too! i get 36 days off a year total - that includes vacation days, sick days and floating holidays (july 4, memorial day, labor day, etc., which are optional). but i also get "free" vacation days during the holiday week. since christmas and new year's day were on wednesdays in 2013, i got 8 extra days on top of the 36 regular days. and, work shuts down during that time, so there's not a lot of email pileup or anything that's being missed for the most part. it is an amazing perk. enjoy your do-nothing days - wonderful!
