Note to self

July 17th, 2013 at 12:58 am

For net worth calculations coming up this week, just got our annual letter in the mail about one of the pension funds.

NT's UK pension #3:
Was 3,709 pounds ($5,934)
Is 4,452 ($7,123)

Great increase in spite of the economic problems endlessly hashed over by the 'talking heads.' Is business silently moving forward with dividend distribution? Some mortgage rates have exceeded 5%. Does NT choose specific investments or are they chosen by the Pension Manager?

it's not bad, but looking the previous year's number in the letter, I may have forgotten to record it last year, so this may be 2 years' growth. It's all managed by the pensions; I don't even really get how they work at all. I try to read the accompanying letters but it's all gobbledygook to me. After we finish getting rid of our student loans, and when we decide where we're going to put down roots, and get all that focus and planning out of the way, it'll be time to take a look at all our retirement funds, especially his pensions and whether they can all be transferred into a single fund, or even brought over here (if we decide to live in the U.S. permanently). I don't even know whether fund costs affect things in England the way they do here; I wonder if there's a Vanguard-esque low cost index thingie I could move all of his pensions into?
