Ha! Miracles do happen.
As soon as I'd redeemed my 50,000 points and paid off all my Chase cards, I sent them this message:
"To Chase Customer Service,
"As my account no doubt reflects, I had an incident last month where one customer service representative promised me something (see message below), but when I tried to get what I was promised, subsequent customer service agents refused to honor this promise.
"As a result, the trust of my long relationship with Chase has been broken. I no longer feel I can do business with you.
"Please cancel all three of my accounts immediately.

That was yesterday. I got a message they'd forwarded my message to the appropriate department and would get back to me soon.
Today, got this message:
"Dear Ceejay74,
"Let me begin by apologizing for any error that may have occurred.
"I am pleased to confirm the promised 50,000 additional rewards have been added to the account and are avaialble for immediate redemption.
"If you are still wanting to close your accounts please letus know.
"If you have any further questions, please reply using the Secure Message Center.
"Thank you,

Checked my account and, what do you know? The extra 50,000 points were in there!
Now I'm a bit tempted to at least keep my Chase Freedom card, which gets good rewards regularly. I do have a Discover card that gets the same type of rewards, so I could close Chase if I was still mad. But I gotta say, $500 goes a long way toward smoothing my ruffled feathers!
I'll redeem the points first and decide later.
Unexpected Chase turnaround!
